Helen is a responsive singer, admired for her purity of sound and finds inspiration in a range of styles including music by Dove, Purcell, Brahms and Mozart. It is her ambition to perform with honesty and expression through singing and teaching, so that everyone can experience the joy of music. Helen has a wealth of choral experience in addition to her solo singing and has worked with renowned choirs such as Ex Cathedra and the BBC Singers. Helen achieved a distinction for her PgDip in Vocal Performance at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in 2020 and sang as a Choral Scholar at Canterbury Cathedral in 2021-22, piloting a brand new career development and outreach programme. She currently works as a freelance singer, vocal coach and is a full time member of the choir at St Columba's Church of Scotland, Pont Street.
Helen graduated with a BA in Music from the University of Leeds in 2010, and has gone on to sing as a soloist with a number of choral societies, as well as teaching both the voice and violin. She blazed the trail for future generations at Lincoln Cathedral in 2011, becoming the first woman to be employed as a singer on an otherwise all male back row, and subsequently Bristol Cathedral’s first female Lay Clerk from 2016-19.
